Remembring Forward – a glimpse of COP26

As the second week of COP26 rolled in, so did I on a Sunday morning into Glasgow Central. There was a strangeness to COP this time around. I have been…

Four Years of Maths

I chose to study maths at university without having the faintest idea of what that meant. And after four years of studying it, I have even less of an idea!…

Developing a Platform on a Shoestring Budget

It. Was. Hard. To quote Hamilton, I had “to beg, steal, borrow, or barter” to bring my vision to reality. And I made many, many mistakes along the way. So…

    A Day in Zürich

    July 21, 2019 / No Comments

Another day, another city! The sun is high and streaming through the window at 7am so I don’t know how I didn’t wake up earlier. But we got up around 9, had breakfast and made some sandwiches, and off we went to the train station, Basel SBB. Have I fangirled about the public transport system here yet? Well, after coming from England where you *plan* to have delays on the train, the Swiss really know their stuff ‘bout this. We made it just in time for the next train to Zurich and literally as the minute changed on our phones, the train departed. It was an hour’s journey and we…

Basel – Where People Float to Work

    July 20, 2019 / No Comments

You know those days when it suddenly strikes you that so much has happened and yet the date is still the same? Today was definitely one of those for me. Technically it makes sense because my day started at 3am, after only an hour’s sleep. London was freshly cleaned after raining all day and everything was eerily quiet as I caught a night bus from my house to St. Paul’s. Next, I weaved through cobbled stones until I reached Blackfriars station and caught the train to Gatwick. A cloudy night sky over the Thames, London still glows at 3am. Everything went smoothly, and the excitement of adventure out-won the lack…

The Quintessentially British Beach of Brighton

    July 18, 2019 / No Comments

It was a lazy start to the day and the damp ground outside didn’t bode well for our road trip to Brighton which we’d planned weeks ahead to accommodate the commitments of my two other friends. Why England? You’ve been giving us a warm hug for weeks now! With a bag packed, I was off first to uni where I met with the professor who supervises my summer project and then took the tube to the very end of the Northern line – Morden. Hopped into a car and off we sped down the A4 to the sea. Looping around to find somewhere to park the car (always such a…

    Do Talk to Strangers

    July 16, 2019 / No Comments

Okay maybe not every stranger… but the thing is most people around you aren’t serial killers and probably think of you as the weird-o. And this sad loop of doubt means stepping into an occupied elevator to the top floor is an awkward experience when it could have maybe been an interesting conversation! I wasn’t a very confident kid growing up and felt nervous speaking to adults and strangers. But the experiences during my 6th form helped me break down the shells I was hidden in and slowly started developing the skills of being able to strike up a conversation and listen! To me, a conversation is a bit like…

    Those Who Are Loved

    July 13, 2019 / No Comments

You get many things on a daily commute – amusement, boredom and sometimes, inspiration! Most of these travels are spent with my nose in a Kindle (doesn’t sound as pleasing as nose in a book…)  but having just finished my previous read, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, I did the other thing I do in tubes – look at people and imagine their story. I didn’t get too far with the lady sat opposite me because I was struck by the beautifully poetic title of the book she was reading: Those who are loved, Victoria Hislop And without even glancing at the blurb or finding its genre, I had…
