The Brick Lane Market
This reading week has become more of a writing one! As I write another blog post after sending a draft of my research project (dedicated post for that coming up) to my supervisor and start planning out my personal statement – quite a bit of writing for me! Living in East London for over a year now, I realised I still hadn’t taken sis around the Brick Lane and Shoreditch area – hipster London. So, slightly under the weather, we took a short bus to Whitechapel and walked a winding route to Brick Lane. Super nostalgic as I remember coming in my first year with my then new friends –…

Seaford to Eastbourne
How can a well-organised trip with the best of people fall apart completely? British weather… It’s been a crazy couple of weeks with uni in full swing and as it happens with things that demand a creative flair and gentle coercion, you, my dear blog, have been neglected. So many cool things to share and if I tried to catch up on it all, I never could. Instead, let me describe to you the amazing day-trip from yesterday! After 5 weeks of full-on learning, UCL deems us worthy of having a half-term break described as “reading week” where it is thought that we would, well, spend time reading. In reality,…

The One Young World Summit #OYWS19
What happens when you bring together over 2000 young leaders from every country in the world? The One Young World Summit is one of the most inspiring gathering of youth from all over the globe who have collectively made a positive impact in the lives of over 20 million people. At it’s 10th anniversary, the summit returned to it’s inaugural city of London; the world’s melting pot. The summit is catalysed by the global leaders that champion it as counsellors like the 7th Secretary General of the UN Kofi Annan, Nobel Peace Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus and even the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle. I was lucky enough to attend…

The Lake District
This iconic location has been on my imaginary bucket list (which includes skydiving and seeing the Northern Lights) for a while! I’m not sure how I heard of it, maybe one of those Secret London articles? But I was obsessed over the crystalline lakes and the panoramic views from the top of the peaks in the Lake District. I’d tried many times to convince my friends to join me on this trip but to no avail. Until now.. and in the most unexpected yet perfectly fitting way too. At the dinner table last night in Lancaster, I expressed my love of the outdoors to my new mathematician friends and that…

Maths in Lancaster
This weekend became a surprise trip to Lancaster after an email from the head of the department telling us about an event for prospective maths PhD students run by the London Mathematical Society. Not sure where I am headed, I signed up! Off Friday morning from Euston and a snooze on the train, I reached Lancaster at midday and successfully used Google Maps to get a bus to campus. With a quick bite and a welcome, we were ushered into the world of mathematical research with talks from leading professors and researchers in UK universities. Some of the talks were really interesting, introducing ideas of cloaking, spread of infectious diseases…
